FOUNDERS of a golf club were recognised for their 21 years of service at their Christmas event.

The Three Rivers Golf and Country Club in Cold Norton held their Christmas Hamper event on Wednesday, where they honoured founding members Ted Langley and Larry Wragg.

As founding members Ted and Larry held positions within the section until they retired at the end of the most recent golfing season.

Ted was the first and, until he retired, the only chairman, whereas Larry was the first seniors captain and then after only six months took up both roles of secretary and treasurer.

Both were instrumental in growing the section from humble beginnings to one where the section now has more than 125 members – one of the largest in Essex.

Not only did they oversee the growth of the section but they were also instrumental in developing relationships with other local golf clubs. The result now sees the section playing a full programme of home and away friendly matches.

Members Communication Officer Peter Gillion said: “In recognition and appreciation of their achievement the seniors have introduced a new trophy to be called The Ted Langley and Larry Wragg Christmas Trophy. This will be played for at future Christmas Hamper Meetings. The Club have also agreed to erect a new honours board for the competition.

“The Trophy and board were unveiled and presented to them by Matt Everitt, the Club’s Sales Manager at the recent Christmas Hamper Event. Ted and Larry then presented the new trophy to the first winner of the new competition Bernard Rider.”

Close to 80 members of the seniors played on the day and were present at the presentation.
