A MAN caught driving 54mph over the speed limit has been disqualified from driving.

Serbjit Bdesha, 48, was caught driving at 84mph along London Road in Stanway on February 8 earlier this year.

The speed limit along the road is 30mph.

Mr Bdesha, of Anchor Road, Tiptree, had initially claimed a relative from India was driving his Mercedes C250 but he later confirmed to officers he was the driver.

Mr Bdesha appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, October 5 where he admitted to driving at excess speed.

Magistrates disqualified him from driving for 40 days and ordered him to pay £640, including a £500 fine.

Investigating officer Roy Keyes, of Essex Police’s Casualty Reduction team, said: "Bdesha was found to be almost three times over the speed limit in a residential street.

"He put himself and other people at risk and then pretended that a family member who had left the country was in fact driving the vehicle.

"Bdesha thought he could trick police, he was wrong, and he has been disqualified from driving and fined."
