A MACHINERY company has been recognised for the support it has pro- vided a museum.

Ernest Doe & Sons was handed the award by the Museum of Power in Langford.

The award - charter patron status - is in recognition of the practical and technical support provided by the agricultural machinery distributor to the museum.

John Lowe, honorary president of the museum, presented the charter to Angus Doe, Service Director and fifth generation of the family business started in 1898.

Mr Lowe said: “Ernest Doe support the museum with the loan of vehicles which make the organisation of fundraising events much easier for our staff.

“The museum wishes to attract more businesses with a variety of skilled services to join our charter patron guild and help us to expand our learning programme which is encouraging the next generation of engineers.”

Receiving the award, Mr Doe said: “As an engineer I revere the historical importance of the Museum of Power which shows the younger generations how British technical skills have enhanced our way of life over the decades.

“We at Ernest Doe are proud to help keep this important historical and education facility alive and thriving.

"It is an honour for Ernest Doe to receive this charter patron accolade.”

The Museum of Power is housed in a former water pumping station and features a 1930 pumping engine which steams at some events.

In December the museum will mark 20 years since opening to the public with special displays and exhibitions featuring the history of the museum and the role of power in British industry.
