THIS year’s Burnham carnival has been hailed a huge success.

Floats, belly dancers, kings and queens plus dozens of people in fancy dress flocked to the streets of Burnham on Saturday night for the 109th annual carnival.

Highlights from this year’s procession included a float devoted to the world of Alice in Wonderland, a tribute to the carnival stalwart Robin “Harry” Harrington who passed away this year, a Halloween float, and a steampunk Victorian themed float.

Caroline Sarychkin, of the carnival committee, said: “It was a really, really good evening once again, and the town was full of extremely happy faces.

“So far, all the comments and feedback on social media have been completely positive, which is wonderful to see.

“We had a group of belly dancers this year performing on the high street, a good ten or 12 of them, along with crowds of dazzling costumes, they were absolutely fabulous.

“Unfortunately the fireworks had to be cancelled on the Sunday due to high winds, which was a shame, but we take safety extremely seriously and did not want to risk any injuries.

“But that didn’t stop it being a really, fabulous procession for Burnham once again.

“Next year will be the carnival’s 110th year, so we will be pulling out all the stops once again.”
