PROTESTERS are marching on the offices of Maldon District Council over the closure of a dog rescue centre.

Owners of Latchingdon’s AA Dog Rescue were ordered by a judge this week after they admitted breaching an noise abatement and enforcement notice.

The judge ordered the centre on Burnham Road in the village to be closed down immediately.

Owners Charley Nathan and Karen James have since stated they plan to rehome their remaining 57 dogs and relocated to operate at another premises.

A crowd of protesters has met at Promenade Park in Maldon with their dogs and signs and are at present marching to the offices of the district council on Princes Road.

UPDATE 1.58pm: The protesters are now outside the Maldon District Council offices and have presented the council leader Mark Durham with a petition to reopen the site, which has more than 6,500 signatures.
