A “SELFISH” paedophile who was found guilty of sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl has been jailed for more than six years.

Bryn Chittenden, 51, sobbed with his head in his hands at Chelmsford Crown Court this morning as the details of his offences were read out.

Chittenden had previously admitted two counts of making indecent images of children, including 23 category A, the most serious, but had denied sexual activity with a 14-year-old in St Lawrence Bay, where he owns a portion of land, in 2015.

However, a jury found him guilty on August 23 this year.

Judge Jonathan Seely labelled Chittenden, of Stowmarket, Suffolk, as “selfish” and that his actions were “deeply concerning”.

He said: “You accessed child pornography involving activity between adults and young teenage girls.

“You then went on to commit this contact offence, which is deeply concerning.

“To make matters worse for yourself, you also blatantly lied in initial police interviews that you believed she was 16.

“You also did not heed any warnings given to you about establishing a relationship with her, pursuing it for your own sexual gratification.

“The vulnerability of your victim was clear, she is a deeply vulnerable person, a deeply vulnerable child, who has an extremely difficult background through absolutely no fault of her own.

“She had enormous issues with confidence at the time you came into her life and you know that and you used that.”

Judge Seely concluded: “You have acted extremely selfishly, and you must face the consequences of your actions.”

Chittenden was sentenced to six years and three months for sexual activity with a child, plus two concurrent six month sentences for making indecent images of children to run consecutively, totalling six years nine months in jail.
