A man with diabetes will take on a ten mile charity walk to raise money for Diabetes UK.

Glen Ashby, from South Woodham Ferrers, will be joined by wife Paula for the ten mile London Bridges challenge.

The couple, who are marking their 30th wedding anniversary this year, will take on the challenge for Diabetes UK on October 1.

The challenge will see walkers trek across 12 of London’s most iconic bridges including London Bridge, Waterloo Bridge and, finally, crossing Tower Bridge.

Glen has Type 2 diabetes and is using walking and healthy eating to help him manage the condition.

He said: “I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 15 years ago and have started to use walking as an excellent way of helping to manage the condition.

“This challenge is a fantastic way to see London and help control my sugar levels.”

The walk will start in beautiful Battersea Park and the route will take walkers past Big Ben and the London Eye, St Paul’s and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

Teresa Strange, Diabetes UK Eastern fundraiser, said: “We are delighted that Glen and Paula are going to be lacing up and taking on the London Bridges Challenge for Diabetes UK.

“We hope Glen and Paula’s commitment will inspire others in the region to get moving and fundraising for Diabetes UK.

"Every penny raised will help us to support the millions of people living with diabetes in the UK so please give generously to back the couple and support their amazing effort.”
