A SCIENCE whizz will be going to study chemistry at the University of Oxford, one of only six people in the country to get a place.

Sam Digby, of Plume Academy, got two A*s and two As in his A Level results on Thursday, which included chemistry, maths, Spanish and biology.

His two A*s mean he has successfully gotten into St Edmund Hall College at the University of Oxford, onto a chemistry course which only takes on six people in the entire country.

A long-term science fan, Sam has always enjoyed the practical side of chemistry the most, and will begin his studies in October this year.

Sam said: “Very pleased, getting the offer was amazing after going through the really rigorous interview process.

“I was so pumped when it came through on UCAS, I literally accepted it within an hour of it coming through, it was one of the quickest decisions I’ve ever made.

“But after you step back from the thrill of people given a place, you realise that you need to get two A*s and two As, then the reality of the task ahead sets in.

“Even though I knew they wanted me, I had a lot to prove in the next couple of months, and they were extremely tough, but it was worth it.”

“I picked the course because I absolutely love chemistry, I don’t really have a big plan for afterwards, but it’s a four year course with lots and lots of research involved, so anything could come out of it.

“Chemistry to me is proper science; it’s the stuff to enjoy most when you get into the laboratories. There’s so much to play around with, experiment and generally have a great time whilst learning and discovering.

“It’s the best result possible for me, and Oxford can’t come soon enough.”
