THE number of people seeking work in Maldon has fallen in the past month, new statistics reveal.

In the latest Labour Market Statistics released this week, figures show that the total number of people seeking work in the Maldon district has fallen to 355 from mid-July's figure of 370.

Compared to mid-August last year, the figure has fallen by 40 for the area.

Dave Cope, of JobCentre Plus, said that Maldon continues to benefit from working links in Chelmsford.

He said: "With Maldon, it has always been an area for very low unemployment, but the notion of 100 per cent employed in a region is always very difficult. The total for Maldon is so low now that any reduction or small increase is still consdered promising and encouraging.

"Maldon also benefits from being close to Chelmsford, meaning many of its residents can commute fairly easily."
