A CARNIVAL procession has raised more than £1,600 for various charities this year.
The Maldon Carnival, which initially had been cancelled after a lack of volunteer support earlier this year, took place on Saturday August 5 after a group of volunteers stepped in to save it.
The procession included colourful floats and attractions, as well as the bonniest baby competition and a new ‘Party at the Plume’ celebration after the procession for all involved.
Highlights from this year included the Maldon Community Pre School winning best float, and The Specsaver Starlets Fearne Wilson and Rosy Cornish, of Specsavers in Maldon High Street, winning best costume for the costume competition.
The Maldon Carnival Association has announced today that nearly £1,700 has been raised from the procession this year.
In a statement, it said: “We are so pleased to announce that the Carnival Procession raised nearly £1700.
“Thank you to all who gave their coins to our amazing floats and procession participants. The Maldon Carnival will give this money to local projects to help our community.
“If you are a charity, club, or community organisation that could benefit from a carnival grant then get in touch.”
Clubs and community groups have until September 23 to apply for the carnival grant.
