A CREAM tea event in Maldon has raised more than £1,500 for a cancer charity.

The event, held in Acacia Drive, Maldon, on Friday, featured cream teas and barbecues and raised £1,700 for the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity.

Organiser, Diana Rogers said: “We have a fantastic day, the weather was perfect and everyone seemed to enjoy the garden, the cream teas and the evening barbecue.

“I am grateful to the Cream Tea Society, Tiptree Jam and Tesco who offset most of the cream tea expenses to raise an amazing amount for the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity.

“Likewise the generosity of the Maldon Mighty Oak Brewing Company and the voice of Rick Crawford helped the evening barbecue raise £556 for the Essex Air Ambulance.

“I would like to thank all the guests, including Jeanette Stilts, mayor of Maldon, and Henry Bass, chairman of Maldon District Council, who supported us and also my large band of helpers without whom I could not consider such an undertaking.”
