FRIENDS of a community stalwart did a sponsored walk to raise money to get her home.

Lisa Aydon, 44, was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge after falling down the stairs of her home in Albert Road, Burnham in April 2014.

Medics saved the mum-of-three’s life but her injuries mean she has spent much of the last three years spent living under the care of The Lawns Nursing Home in Chelmsford.

Mrs Aydon, a family support worker at Burnham Primary School who became a qualified teacher shortly before the accident, has been given the all-clear to move back home.

But the Burnham Rugby Club stalwart cannot return until a wet room and safety ramps are installed to make the home wheelchair accessible.

Lisa’s friends Brenda Manning, Amanda Johnson and Jerry Mecoy along with her mother Gene have set up a fundraising page and gathered tradesmen to help transform her home and make her comfortable.

To coincide with this, friends of Lisa organised a huge charity walk at the Rose Inn in Southminster on Sunday, with a fun day after, which had a big raffle, bouncy castles, face painting, ice cream vans and live music.

Brenda Manning said: “It was such a fun time and thanks to everyone we are going to surpass the original amount of £2,000, as the fund will be more than £5,500 by the end of July when it’s finishing.

“The funds raised from the page will help us transform Lisa’s home into the most comfortable living space possible so she can live a really happy life.

“If anyone still would like to donate it would be greatly appreciated.”
