A NEW initiative has been set up for Maldon designed for individuals to get in the fresh air, make friends and keep active.

The Maldon Active Support Team (MAST) has set up a series of weekly walks in Promenade Park in Maldon.

The groups start at the Lakeside Café at the Hythe end of the Lake and walkers can choose their own route and pace.

There is also an opportunity to buy a drink and even have a delicious scone at the end. Wheelchair walkers, buggies and dogs - with their owners - are all welcome.

Co-ordinator Linda Allen said: “These walks are for everybody, no matter what their ability, but they’re especially for people who may find the existing walks schemes a bit daunting, we are very flexible and it’s all about personal choice and gentle improvement.

“Some will have a stroll, some will have a power walk, but we get together afterwards for a chat and to compare notes.

“This week we had three new Ladies turn up and they did laps round the lake, and one of our Maldon Shed men, Steve, brought his lovely little son Edwin for his walk.

“Since the beginning of May we have only had to cancel the walk once, in the gales the previous Tuesday, when we had the concern that walkers would actually get blown away.”

The walks start at 11.15 every Tuesday. Call 01621 851891.
