A BIKER has told of the terrifying moment a motorist slammed into the back of his moped shoving him meters down a road.

Robert Finch, 46, of Latchingdon, was travelling home on his moped when a motorist became angry and rammed him at the junction between Mundon Village road and Burnham Road.

The car, a silver Mini Cooper, had previously overtaken Mr Finch, who said it had ‘missed him by a whisker’.

He said: “I was travelling along at around 45 miles-an-hour, the maximum speed of my moped, from Mundon towards Burnham Road, when this silver Mini catapulted passed me, he was so close I could feel the car brush against my elbow.

“He must have been going at least 90 miles-an-hour. I didn’t think I’d see him again, but as I arrived at the Burnham Road junction there he was. I pulled up beside him and in no plush terms told him what I thought of his driving before going in front of him.

“He was a young bloke, probably under 25, with a short beard. His accent was northern, he wasn’t from around here.

“I pulled out, and before I knew it, an almighty force rammed the back of the moped and forced it onto its side with me clinging on, my head was centimetres from the road surface.

“It pushed me a good few meters down the road before he sped off into the distance.

“I literally sat in the middle of the road dumbfounded at what just happened, I couldn’t believe someone would do that.

“I only got a couple of scratches and bruises, I was incredibly lucky.”

An Essex Police spokesman said: “We are appealing for information about a road traffic collision in Burnham Road, Latchingdon, at around 11.15am on Monday May 15. A silver Mini and a moped were in collision close to the junction at Mundon Road. A 46-year-old man from Latchingdon was knocked off his moped and the Mini failed to stop at the scene.” Call 101 with information.
