A HISTORIC clubhouse will be holding an open day in support of a charity campaign.

Maldon Little Ship Club on Hythe Quay will be opening its doors to the public at their clubhouse on Sunday May 7 in support of the Royal Yachting Association’s “Push the Boat Out” campaign.

This campaign aims to make people more aware of the health and enjoyment benefits which can be gained from boating and sailing.

The historic clubhouse with its atmospheric bar will be open from 12-6 pm to welcome visitors and provide them with information about our sailing, social and training programmes.

MLSC’s training courses have a long tradition and a sound reputation for giving people the confidence to take up sailing or boating and safely venture out onto the water.

As a follow up from the open day, people can sign up for a “Come Sailing” day at Bradwell Marina on Saturday May 13 or Sunday May 14 where families can experience sailing in members’ sailing cruisers free of charge.

Additionally, the club are offering a weekend training course on June17 and 18 where interested people can follow the RYA shore based Essential Navigation and Seamanship course.

This will give them a qualification in the basic theoretical background, terminology and understanding of the world of sailing and boating. It costs £90.

During the open day cakes and snacks will be available from the clubhouse galley with proceeds going to the RNLI as part of their Mayday fundraising campaign. There will also be a Model Lifeboat on the quay and an opportunity to support the RNLI by placing coins onto a large lifeboat picture.
