XUBERANT and multi-talented are the words which sprung to mind whilst being so very well entertained on Friday evening at the packed Methodist Church, here in wonderful Maldon.

So an enormous thank you to Harambee’s production of Face to Face, celebrating the 30 years of their existence.

Please carry on. The enthusiasm of the entire cast of singers and actors whose ages spanned about 70 years was totally infectious; humour, sadness, thought-provoking singing and dialogue kept us all totally involved, taking us through the Old and New Testaments.

In the chairman and musician/ composer’s words: “The great thing about Harambee is the spirit which remains undiminished after 30 years. I do hope you will sense that as you watch the show.”

Yes indeed Ham Harper we most certainly did. Harambee is a Swahili word meaning pulling together, which was so obviously evident.

On the previous day, Thursday, the United Reformed Church was the venue for the talented Trinity Trio.

I found it a really great hour’s entertainment to include music by one composer who is quite new to me, Philippe Gaubert.

They were also a humorous group, describing the composers’ characters and whims.

All three young musicians — Stuart Davis (piano), Ruth Young (flute) and Dave Holland (viola) have very impressive CVs. Please may we have them here again.
