A FOOTBALL club committee member was rushed to hospital after falling ill during an away match.

David Wilshere, who is a committee member on Maldon and Tiptree FC, became ill during the squads Saturday match against Bury Town.

He was taken by ambulance from the club’s ground in Bury St Edmunds to West Suffolk Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A statement on the Maldon and Tiptree FC website said: “For those of you who are unaware, David suddenly fell ill after yesterday’s 3-2 defeat away at Bury Town. David was taken by ambulance to West Suffolk Hospital.

“We can confirm that David is currently in a stable condition, however he will remain in hospital over the next couple of days to undergo observations and further tests.

“Our thoughts are currently with David and his family. Everyone at Maldon & Tiptree Football Club would like to wish David a quick and smooth recovery.

“We would also like to pass on our thanks, on behalf of David and his family, to our friends at Bury Town, for their care and attention before and after the paramedics arrived at Ram Meadow.”

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: "We received a call on Saturday at 5.19pm to reports of a man who had collapsed at a football match on Cotton Lane, Bury St Edmunds.

"An ambulance crew was sent to assist and arrived within seven minutes to treat the man, believed to be in his 30s, before taking him to West Suffolk Hospital for further care."

Bury Town F.C. tweeted: "All at Ram Meadow also wish @MaldonTiptreeFC committee member David Wilshere well after he fell ill at our game yesterday."
