A “SUPERB” solo artist will be performing in the district for the very first time this weekend.

Musical company macTheatre continue their season of quality music events with eminent Rab Noakes coming to Maldon Little Ship Club for the first time on Sunday.

Part of the wave of iconic singer-songwriters of the 1970s, Rab has enjoyed a varied and illustrious musical life including writing songs for hit-makers Lindisfarne and regular appearances on shows such as John Peel and The Old Grey Whistle Test.

After working with lifelong friend Gerry Rafferty in Stealers Wheel, he opted for a solo career with his songs being covered by the likes of Barbara Dickson.

More recently, he has produced ground breaking shows for Celtic Connections in Glasgow, and collaborated with many other performers including Barbara Dickson and acclaimed Gaelic singer, Kathleen MacInnes.

However, where he shines best is his solo performances. Superb songs, performed with ease by one man and a guitar.

With a significant birthday this year, Rab shows no signs of slowing up, and is planning a special EP ‘The Treatment Tapes’ to be released to celebrate that and an impressive fifty years in the business. Rab’s playing at the Little Ship Club in Maldon marks a rare opportunity of an up-close-and-personal performance.

A spokesman for macTheatre said: “We’re very grateful to Maldon Little Ship Club as without a dedicated arts space in Maldon suitable venues and function rooms being available are hard to secure these days.

“ It’s really fantastic to have Rab Noakes share his songs with us. He is such an inspiration as an artist and as a person.

“I know Maldon audiences will be up for such a terrific evening.”

Rab will perform at the club on Hythe Quay this Sunday from 8pm. Tickets cost £12 per head and can be bought from Maldon Tourist Information Centre on Wenlock Way or online.
