A CHORAL singer has been awarded a place to sing in a world famous Oxford choir.
Lewis Hammond, who current sings with the choir of St Mary’s Church in Maldon, is set to study music at Oxford University.
He has also been invited to sing as a choral scholar in the Choir of New College Oxford.
Director of music for St Mary’s Choir, Colin Baldy, said: “Lewis Hammond started singing with St Mary's choir as a treble and has spent the past three and a half years singing as a counter-tenor.
“His experience of singing a wide range of music with the choir, from the sixteenth century to the present day was invaluable in teaching him how to sight read and in developing his musicianship generally.
“We hope Lewis' success will inspire other young people to sing with the choir and to raise their ambitions.”
