MALDON'S Promenade Park and Hythe Quay were left flooded following three days of high tides.

The Environment Agency issued the flood warning for the waterfront and Hythe Quay area due to predicated high water on Friday night.

The high water was expected due to storms and high tides.

While there was no serious flooding on Friday, Saturday's high tide saw water come over the sea walls and spill into the park and flood part of Hythe Quay.

Flood alerts had also been issued for the Blackwater Estuary and the River Crouch for Thursday's and Friday's high tides.

The alerts covered the coast from St Peters Flat to Clacton including the Blackwater Estuaries and the River Colne and the St Peters Flat to Shoeburyness including the Crouch and Roach Estuaries.

Maldon District Council monitored the situation after other areas in Essex including Jaywick, Mersea and Mistley were evacuated.

Due to a combination of spring tides, tidal surge and high winds there was a risk of waves breaching sea walls along the Maldon district coastline.

But the council said the risk of flooding to residents had not been considered high and no evacuations took place.
