PROPOSALS to allow power station workers to live on a caravan park are set to be rejected by councillors.

St Lawrence Caravans, based on Main Road, St Lawrence, had applied to Maldon District Council to use 13 existing static holiday caravans for temporary accommodation for workers at Bradwell Power Station.

The site, five miles from the power station, has a licence for 197 caravans at the park.

In its planning statement the park said it was ‘ideally located’ to provide accommodation for workers.

Following the end of the planning permission – which would be until 2019, when decommissioning at the station is completed – the 13 homes would revert back to their original use.

But planning officers at the council have now recommended the bid is refused.

The council’s south eastern planning committee will discuss the plans on Monday.

The Environment Agency has already objected to the plans as the site is within an area at risk of flooding.

A report, which will go before the committee, said: “The applicant has suggested various conditions that could be imposed to control the occupation of the mobile homes, but these do not fully address the fundamental objection relating to flood risk and taken together would not meet the tests of enforceability.”

The report added that the council has ‘generally resisted’ the use of mobile homes as year round residential units within holiday parks.

The planning committee meeting takes place on Monday at the Burnham Town Council Offices in Chapel Road, Burnham, from 7.30pm.
