NO criminal proceedings will be taken against a driver involved in a crash which saw a five-year-old boy taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The “horrific” crash happened on Limebrook Way, Maldon on July 23, and involved a black Mini and a black Vauxhall Mokka.

The father and son in the Mokka were both injured- the boy was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital with head injuries which were initially considered life-threatening. .

Police said a mother and daughter were in the Mini. The driver, 25, was airlifted to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge with a broken leg.

The other woman was taken to Broomfield Hospital with less serious injuries.

Essex Police have revealed that no criminal action will be taken against the driver of the Vauxhall following a police investigation.

Instead, the driver was referred to the Driver and Vehicles Standard Agency for suffering a medical issue while behind the wheel.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We would like to thank the numerous members of the public for their assistance at the scene in caring for the injured parties and for their understanding for the necessary road closures that were in place at the time.”
