A CHARITY carol service was held at St Peter’s Hospital in aid of a Southminster woman battling cancer.

Julie Taylor, at the St Peter’s Hospital café, hosted the event on Wednesday which raised money for the Save Assunta Appeal.

Assunta Langer, 44, was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in November last year.

Despite undergoing chemotherapy, which initially slowed the spread of the cancer, it has since spread to her brain, lungs, liver and lymph nodes.

Her family is now desperately searching for alternative treatments including in America and Europe.

In the States, Assunta can be treated with trial PARP inhibitors or immunotherapy.

Wednesday’s carol service managed to raise £231 for the Save Assunta Appeal.

For Julie, that is just the start: “It went really well. Everybody enjoyed themselves and we raised a great amount for a great appeal.

“We do something every month for a couple of charities, but this month we want to focus just on Assunta and her appeal.

“We have got another Christmas lunch coming up next Wednesday and will have a raffle there as well. Hopefully we can raise even more than this week.

“We have a target of £1,000 to raise across the month for the Save Assunta Appeal.

“We are selling charity Chritsmas cards that the children made too. They are available at the café.”
