A BID to build a housing estate and village hall in Latchingdon is set to be approved.

Latchingdon South applied to build 41 homes on land north of the village’s Jacks Bowls Club in Burnham Road last year.

The plans were rejected in November but the developer resubmitted the scheme, which includes 16 affordable homes.

As part of the application, permission is also being sought for a village hall.

The proposed homes would be a mix of two, three and four-bedroom properties including bungalows, apartments, detached, semi-detached and terraced houses.

Officers at Maldon District Council have recommended the plans for approval.

The south eastern area planning committee will debate the plans on Monday.

A report, which will go before the committee, said: “It is considered the scheme would be acceptable subject to conditions.

“The design is considered to be appropriate and the layout would be reflective of the setting, providing a logical extension between existing residential development, Buchanan Way to the north, and Jacks Centre Bowls Club to the south.”

Latchingdon Parish Council has supported the plans. Sarah Sayer, parish clerk, said: “This application is unanimously supported by members.

“It will provide a mix of housing, including some much-needed smaller properties for senior citizens and release larger social hous- ing for families and for local young people to stay near families.”

“Open days were held where 85 per cent of people were in support of this development.

“The developer has made all the changes it was asked to by Maldon District Council Planning.”

The meeting takes place at the Burnham Town Council offices in Chapel Road, Burnham, from 7.30pm.
