POLICE were called to Southminster train station as youths caused delays for a number of commuters.

A group of youngsters were being verbally abusive towards staff on a Greater Anglia train on Monday night, as well as preventing train doors from closing.

British Transport Police were called to the scene shortly after 9pm, and were joined by Essex Police.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “There were some people on the platform and train causing disturbance, at which point they were moved on.”

An Essex Police spokesman added: “Police were contacted at 9.05pm on October 17 with reports of a disturbance on a train carriage at Southminster train station.

“A group of youths were reported to be preventing the doors from closing and being verbally abusive towards staff.

“Officers attended. The youths had left the scene and no offences were reported.”
