AN experienced consultant is being sought to help drive forward plans to regenerate Maldon’s Hythe Quay.

In May Maldon District Council was awarded £50,000 from the government to explore ways to regenerate the historic waterfront.

The council will use the money to carry out a feasibility study into what works could be carried out.

Ideas suggested have included specialist markets, a new visitor centre, a restaurant and holiday homes on the historic waterfront.

Now the council has invited “suitably qualified and experienced” consultants to apply to help carry out the feasibility study.

It is hoped a contract for the study will be awarded by November this year with it completed by March 31, 2017.

A spokesman said: “The council is seeking consultancy to move forward with local partners the regeneration of the historic waterfront area within the town.

“The project will identify local needs and develop projects to take forward and seek out funding opportunities

“Applicants from suitably qualified and experienced consultants have been invited and following a short selection process the council hopes to appoint during November.

“The work will conclude by April next of next year.”
