VINTAGE Jaguar E-types graced Maldon High Street in the morning sunshine.

A procession of classic motors travelled through the High Street on Wednesday morning as part of their 3,600 mile drive around the UK in support of the charity Prostate Cancer UK.

The Round Britain Coastal Drive began at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in Chichester on September 12 and concluded there with a lap of the circuit on September 29.

The unique event was the brainchild of author Philip Porter who recently recovered from prostate cancer.

He drove the entire route in his red E-type convertible, 848 CRY, which appeared in the iconic 1960s film, The Italian Job, starring Michael Caine.

Supporters of the event included Jools Holland, Brian Johnson, Jeremy Clarkson, Martin Brundle, Murray Walker and F1 legend Ross Brawn, who joined the drivers on sections of their journey.

The procession had an overnight halt in Maldon on Tuesday evening, departing from JD Classics on Wycke Hill shortly before 10am after meeting Henry Bass from Maldon District Council.

They then proceeded through the High Street before heading out to Folkestone for their next stage.

Maldon resident Alec Hopkins said: β€œIt was wonderful to see all of them together along the High Street, they looked great and sounded magnificent.”
