A MENTAL Health organisation in Burnham has received a £10,000 grant to help with projects in the area.

Create & Flourish were awarded the money by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

People from across the Dengie will be offered the opportunity to sign up for a range of activities relating to the history of the allotments on Arcadia Road, Burnham.

Groups will include research workshops, photography workshops, recording the memories of local people as art, graphic workshops and copywriting workshops.

The work produced will be gathered together and put into a booklet that will be accompanied by an exhibition.

By inviting a broad range of volunteers to take part in this project, Create & Flourish are hoping to build strong relationships between people, and address the stigma surrounding community health.

They believe the project is the first step to creating a sustainable and resilient community.

Sharon Chan, from Create & Flourish, said: “We are delighted to have received the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and we’re confident that this funding will enable us to offer some exciting opportunities.”

Robin Llewellyn, head of the HLF in the East of England, said: “Allotments are wonderful community spaces which provide a range of benefits for everyone who uses them.

“We are delighted to be able to support this excellent project to explore the history of the Arcadia Road site, and give local people the opportunity to engage with the heritage in their back garden.”
