A COFFEE morning in support of Macmillan Cancer support will be taking place in Maldon High Street next week.
The Macmillan Coffee mornings, labelled as “The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning” take place across the UK on Friday September 30. It is the charity’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer.
They ask people all over the UK to host their own Coffee Mornings and donations on the day are made to Macmillan.
Last year, Macmillan raised £25 million from the event, and this year they are aiming to raise even more.
Maldon’s The Oakhouse on High Street will once again be taking part, hosting their coffee morning from 10am to noon on the Friday.
Representatives from the East of England Co-operative funeral services will be there to host, as well as the Maldon Beekeepers, town mayor Richard Miller and other councillors.
There will additionally be a “Cake Off” competition with people submitting their best cakes, brownies and other bakery goods for judging for a prize. Suggested entry donation is £2.
Carlie Mayes, one of the organisers, said: “We’re still looking for a budding cake enthusiast to help judge the competition, if anyone thinks they know their stuff or are a Great British Bake Off aficionado, we’d love to get you involved.”
