A MALDON gallery is showcasing the staggeringly colourful works of a northern based artist.

The Hart and Hamm Gallery on Maldon High Street presents Clare Johnson, whose works include displays of local areas of Maldon, Witham and Chelmsford.

Ms Johnson is a printmaker, with her current works having evolved as a result of a move from London to the north dock of the most Easterly town in England, Lowestoft.

The prints on display celebrate the shape and beauty of the structures within the landscapes of the town.

The design of the print incorporates inspiration drawn from early postcards, often depicted in glorious colour.

Ms Johnson was born in Sheffield, just after her parents moved from Northern Ireland to England in search of work. Early in her life the family moved to Sevenoaks, in Kent, home of Salmon postcards. Her brother was born and she met her best friend.

Ms Johnson now divides her time between Lowestoft and London, hunting country wide for suitable industrial structures, landmarks and practical buildings.

Her work has won prizes at the Eastern Open and been commissioned by Metro creative, Norfolk Tourists board and The National Theatre, London.

The exhibition runs daily at the gallery from 10am to 5pm until Monday August 29. Call 01621927071.
