UNPOPULAR plans to build 180 homes on the edge of Burnham are back on the cards.

Pigeon Land has submitted revised proposals to put up the homes on land in Burnham West, off Maldon Road.

The latest plans include the 180 homes, a 50-60 bedroom nursing home, a nursery school and space for allotments.

It is not the first time plans for the development have been changed. The application has been open since 2014 and has still yet to come before Maldon District Council for decision.

The latest amendments show a reduction in the size of the land included in the proposal, and the removal of an access road through Springfield Industrial Estate.

The amount of time the application is taking has frustrated some residents who are firmly against the development.

Dennis Price, Chairman of Burnham Residents Oppose Over Development (BROOD), said: “The amount of time this developer has been working on this and has been allowed to make cosmetic changes without being told to come back with something better is frustrating.

“We are disappointed, but at the end of the day developers will do that if given half the chance.

“Where they are trying to win a war of attrition with the Council and wear them down I don’t know.”

Mr Price said despite the amendments, the core of the application remained the same.

He said: “We feel that there is very little difference between the original application and this one.

“They still want to put land aside for allotments. We have allotments already in Burnham, and there are vacant ones for people who want them.

“There is even space for them to be expanded if demand becomes greater than supply.

“They are still putting in for a care home when there has been nothing outlined in the LDP for that.

“Our opinion has not changed from the original application. These amendments are purely cosmetic, nothing significant about the proposal has really changed.”
