A LONG-DELAYED pirate adventure golf course in Promenade Park will finally open to the public this Saturday.

The £600,000 project by South West Adventure Golf had been due to open in March last year after securing planning permission in October 2014.

However, in February last year, it was revealed conditions attached to the planning approval had taken too long to discharge and so the project was delayed by more than a year.

Work did not begin until March this year, after several issues pushed the development back even further.

It was originally meant to be finished by Easter .

Now finally on the brink of being unveiled, the tourist attraction will feature 18 holes, a pirate ship, a sailing ship, lookout tower with canons and a waterfall with “spectacular” explosion effects.

A decking area has also been laid out, which will be big enough for up to 80 people to sit on near the course to relax after a few rounds.

Maldon and Burnham Standard:

A mobile catering unit will also be put in place on the site for refresh- ments, with plans to build a perma- nent catering centre at the end of the year.

The new course will create 14 part-time jobs and six full time.

Martin Devine, managing director of South West Adventure Golf, is looking forward to finally open to the public.

He said: “It’s been a very long journey with many delays and set backs, but now it’s nearly finished we’re really pleased with the course, it’s become much better than we thought it would be and has blown away all our expectations.

“It looks absolutely fantastic, and we managed to keep within budget despite suffering delays, I can’t wait for people to see it.”

An official opening will be held on Monday.
