FLASH flooding swept across the Maldon District causing hell for commuters with many roads awash with surface water.
The huge levels of rain that fell in the early hours of Thursday morning saw many roads closed and deep patches of surface water.
The Met Office issued a severe weather warning until Friday morning. Essex County Council advised people on Thursday morning not to travel unless absolutely necessary.
Many residents took to social media to share the devestation the rains caused and to warn others to avoid areas.
