A PENSIONER who suffered a nasty fall in Maldon has thanked the many residents who stopped to help her.

May Williams, 85, of Princes Road, Maldon, was walking down Mill Road when she stumbled at the pavement curb when crossing the road and fell face forward.

Many residents stopped and got out of their cars to help, who suffered a chipped bone in her arm, chipped teeth and bruising to her face.

Ms Williams said that all of the people who helped and waited with her before the ambulance arrived were ‘wonderful’.

She said: “It all happened really fast, one minute I was leaving the pavement, next I was face forward on the ground.

“Everyone around me was so lovely and kept me calm while the ambulance was on the way.

“One woman was even kind enough to walk all the way down the High Street to where my son worked and told him what happened, and she and he were back with me before the ambulance arrived.

“I couldn’t be more grateful for everyone that was there to help me, there’s a lot of evil in this world at the moment, but also so much kindness.

“All of the staff and helpers at Broomfield hospital were equally lovely. I cannot thank them enough.”

May’s son, Steve Williams, also thanked the many strangers who stopped to help his mother on the day.

He said: “It was lovely to have so many strangers stop to help my mother when they didn’t know her.

“She suffered broken teeth, substantial bruising and a broken left elbow, but she's a tough old girl and continues to make a good recovery.”

Ms Williams has been discharged from Broomfield hospital and is recovering at her home in Maldon.
