RAIN didn’t put off the crowds at a huge tea party to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday in Burnham.

Burnham Station House hosted the party as part of the nationwide Station to Station celebration to mark her Majesty’s birthday.

In total 90 stations across the UK organised events.

The Burnham event, held in the recently refurbished station house, was organised by the Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership together with Burnham Town Council and Abellio Greater Anglia.

Scores of visitors enjoyed free tea and cakes with plenty fun and games for all the family.

Eddie Johnson, Essex County Councillor responsible for Highways and Transport said: “What a fantastic way to celebrate Her Majesty’s birthday. Despite the damp weather it was wonderful to see the local community come together to mark this important occasion.”

Paul Oxley, Stakeholder Manager at Abellio Greater Anglia, added: "On behalf of the Community Rail Partnership I would like to thank all of the volunteers for making the Burnham Tea Party such a success.

"It was fantastic to see so many people from the local community taking part and we hope everyone enjoyed celebrating Her Majesty's 90th birthday."

Lisa Bird, of the 1st Burnham on Crouch Rainbows, who all attended praised the event.

She said: “We made crowns, played hoopla, had our faces painted as well as eating cake and drinking juice.

“We met a clown who had sweets, a magician and listened to some fantastic music. All in all we had a great time and enjoyed every minute of it.”
