A DRAMA group has marked the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death by performing one of his best loved comedies.

Maldon Drama Group, which has been performing in the town for more than 60 years, took to the stage to put on Twelfth Night .

The comedy, thought to have been written around 1601, centres around twins Viola and Sebastian, who are separated by a shipwreck.

Viola, disguised as a boy, falls in love with Duke Orsino, who in turn falls in love with the Countess Olivia.

But Countess Olivia has fallen in love with Viola, thinking she is a man, sparking a confusing love triangle.

Their performance on Saturday night marked the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death in Stratford upon Avon, aged 52.

Neil Fisher, of the group, said: “The show was very well received, we even had the Mayor of Maldon give a very complimentary speech at the end of Friday's performance.”
