A CHOIR is celebrating after its charity flashmob was praised by Lord Sugar and Jamie Oliver.

The Big Sing Community Choir is hoping its video of a flashmob at its charity fun day in Maldon will go viral after the attention on Twitter.

More than £2,000 was raised on the day when the choir performed for visitors at Maldon Town Hall.

The event was organised to raise money for Cherished, which helps young women escape domestic abuse, prostitution and homelessness.

Now Lord Sugar and Jamie Oliver’s Food Tube have both tweeted their encouragement of the group.

Lord Sugar said: “Well done @BIGSing1, great Apprentice spirit. Good to see your £20 making £000s for charity.”

Jamie Oliver’s Food Tube account tweeted: “Big LOVE to the @BIGSing1 (who sang at @jamieoliver’s SURPRISE 40th Birthday) and their FLASHMOB.”

Gemma Francis, leader of Big Sing, said: “We got the flashmob video online and tweeted Lord Sugar last Thursday and he replied the next day.

“It was really great and a bit surprising. “Jamie Oliver tweeted us for the same reason. He knows us as we sang at his surprise 40th birthday party.

“It is helping to raise the profile for the charity Cherished if everyone watches the flashmob video.”
