ASHES-winning captain Alistair Cook surprised players at a charity event when he turned up and manned the barbecue.
Cook dished up bangers and burgers at the fifth Rock Up For Randall hosted by Maldon Cricket Club on Sunday, to the delight of players and families.
He also had a go on splat the rat, spoke to lots of children and all the stallholders, signed autographs, handed out certificates to the kwik cricket teams, played the steel drum and even sang in the evening with the band, Six String Makeover.
It was the first time Cook had been able to attend a Rock Up For Randall event because in the past, he had always been busy with Test matches.
About 20 teams took part in the inter-club kwik cricket tournament and it is estimated that more than £10,000 for the David Randall Foundation (DRF), of which Cook is a patron.
