Parents have branded their punishment a “diabolical liberty” after they dared to take their child out of school for a £5,000 exotic holiday.
The mother and father have each been ordered to do 120 hours of unpaid work by Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court after they refused to cancel a two-week trip of a lifetime.
It was the second time they had taken their youngster out of Plume School, Maldon, or allowed the child to miss school.
The father said: “I think it’s a diabolical liberty.
“People get less community service for mugging someone."
