The official opening of Tillingham's multi use games area, shed extension and youth shelter will take place on Saturday.

Tillingham Parish Council was granted £33351 by Essex County Council’s Community Initiatives Fund to build the multi use games area.

The area, located in the south west corner of Tillingham's West Field, was built after the village's young people made a specific request for a hard court area to play sports.

The winter can be too wet for sports, so the new facility will give sports players the opportunity to play in all weathers.

County Councillor Roger Hirst, Cabinet Member for Customer Services, Libraries, Planning and the Environment said: “The Community Initiatives Fund is an excellent example of how Essex County Council is supporting communities to help themselves.

“By increasing the opportunities for local residents, community groups and volunteers individually to shape their local facilities and undertake new ventures, we will see them make Essex an even better place to live and work than it is today.”

Magnox also donated £1000 and the Bradwell Wind Farm pledged £3966.

The opening will take place at 10.30am at the site on Vicarage Lane.
