An architect is hoping his latest design for an impressive focal point in Maldon town centre will be taken up.
Antony Claydon has often walked past Thomas Plume’s Library on the corner of Market Hill and the High Street and thought how much more could be made of the site.
Last year, semi-retired Mr Claydon took it upon himself to draw up a sketch of a large glass extension to the side of the library and Maeldune Heritage Centre.
He said: “The previous sketch was too outrageous for Maldon so I have revised it.
“What we have done now is put this much more acceptable, almost ecclesiastical building on the side with two-storey glass so you can still see the church and the building.”
There would be a staircase and lift to the first floor as visitors walk in.
Mr Claydon intends to bring his ideas to a Maldon District Council business meeting on April 28.
Maldon Town Council owns St Peter’s Tower and the Plume building and is responsible for the closed churchyard.
