Do you recognise any of the faces in this old snap?

Submitted by Susan Martin, the picture shows workers from Goldhanger Fruit Farms, the old canning factory in Tolleshunt Major.

At its peak, the business employed 800 from the surrounding area and it even took on extra workers during the busy summer season.

The factory opened in the late 1950s, closing in the 1980s.

It was first owned by Sir Jack Cohen and changed owners and names numerous times throughout the years.

Sir Jack lived in the Goldhanger area from the 1940s to 50s and established the canning factory before opening his first supermarket in Maldon in 1956 and going on to form the Tesco supermarket chain.

Administrator Mrs Martin, of Tolleshunt D’Arcy, worked in the factory’s wages department from 1974 until 1981, although she is not in this photo.
