A town icon has been left in a “sad and dilapidated” state despite calls for it to be looked after.
Burnham’s cannon, believed to date back to 1795, once proudly sat on the quay pointing out to sea.
It is currently situated on the White Harte premises and in need of restoration and a replacement wheel.
Burnham resident Alex Jennings, of Fernlea Road, got in touch with the town council about a year ago about his concerns.
The 84-year-old, who has a cannon in his front garden, gave the council a plan and costings to have the town’s cannon mounted on the quay with a concrete plinth so as to make it more secure.
He said: “I’m very disappointed.
“The council have had my plans for over a year."
At a Burnham Town Council meeting, councillor Una Norman raised the issue of the cannon and asked what should be done about it.
Council clerk David McNeill said he would make contact with Mr Jennings.
