A former Territorial Army soldier who volunteers for military charities is dismayed wreaths at the war memorial have gone.

Geoff Dickman, of Essex Road, Maldon who volunteers as a case worker for the Royal British Legion, noticed the wreaths and poppies left at the Maldon war memorial have been removed with a few small crosses left.

Mr Dickman feels this shows a lack of consideration towards soldiers who died fighting.

President of the Maldon Royal British Legion, Albert Kilby, said the wreaths were moved to clean up the memorial.

He said: “I look after the town war memorial and have done for the last 30 years.

“We took 50 wreaths off the memorial and cleaned it up.

“It is no good if the wreaths mould and make it look terrible."
