A campaign launched to improve safety at the underpass where a young woman was raped attracted 750 signatures in just 48 hours.
Mum-of-four Kelly Sanger, of Roman Close, Heybridge, launched a petition on Sunday morning for lighting and CCTV cameras to make the A414 underpass and Mill Lane a safer place to walk.
By Tuesday afternoon, 765 people had signed it and Mrs Sanger began taking a paper petition door-to-door.
She said: "The rape really shocked me, I have three teenage daughters and the thought of them even walking home from school, as it gets dark so quickly, scares me."
