A village hall could see its energy bills slashed if plans to install solar panels get the go ahead.

Cold Norton village hall will be undergoing a £30,000 refurbishment next month and villagers are now hoping to install £15,000 worth of solar panels on its roof to slash energy bills by about £800 per year.

The parish council is proposing to take out a loan of £15,000 to finance the installation of panels on the south facing roof.

It is expected that the Feed in Tariff (FIT), which is guaranteed by the government for a period of 20 years, will service the loan in full and also provide a small annual income for the village.

Parish councillor Sue Garnham, who is also secretary of the village hall committee, said: “I’m a great believer in trying to cut down on expenses."
