A shopkeeper who is closing two businesses says more could be done to draw footfall to the lower end of Maldon High Street.
Michelle Wells has run Essex Wall Art and Different for 12 years and will be closing both in January to spend more time with her family.
Mrs Wells said: “This end of the High Street isn’t busy and I have made the decision.
“It’s a personal decision more than anything.
“It’s a bit like a magnet when you say you’re closing down because everyone comes down here because they think they will get a bargain.
“Our regulars are sorry to see us go.
“I do think the council could have done more to increase footfall down here.
“The car park opposite isn’t very well signed.”
Mrs Wells is looking to dedicate more of her time to her parents and in-laws.
