A man has died after a car collided with a tree last night. 

Emergency services were called to Woodrolfe Road in Tollesbury at about 12.45am after a silver Audi A3 car left the road and collided with a tree. 

One casualty was trapped in the rear of the vehicle so fire crews used specialist cutting equipment to free them by 1.30am. 

A 25-year-old man, from the Tollesbury area, were confirmed dead at the scene and a second occupant of the car, an 18-year-old man from Colchester, was taken to Broomfield for treatment to leg injuries. 

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved. 

Part of Woodrolfe Road was closed until shortly before 7am this morning for recovery of the car and while police carried out initial investigations.
