Both Maldon and Burnham feature in the Rough Guides’ new pocket booklet, entitled Make the Most of the Discovery Coast.
The colourful booklet is all about the Essex coastline.
Maldon is noted for its “atmospheric” Hythe Quay, seven active Thames Sailing Barges, Barge Tearooms, Promenade Park as well as the Blackwater estuary, which offers “rich pickings for ramblers, birdwatchers and photographers”.
Heybridge Basin also features in the booklet as a “picturesque spot where the saltwater river meets the eighteenth century”.
A page is devoted to Burnham with a picture of the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club.
The town is noted for its “sea-salty charm” and a high street with a “hodgepodge” of architecture.
According to the guide: “Burnham is a great base for exploring the stunning, mysterious Dengie Peninsula with its unspoilt villages and eerie saltmarsh fringes”.
