A market that was criticised before it even opened has had its trial period extended after a successful three month run.

Burnham Market has now been praised by shoppers, residents and councillors alike and the trial has now been extended until March 31 next year.

There are now about 70 traders on a waiting list for a pitch at the market, which runs between 8am and 2.30pm every Tuesday.

The trial was due to end this month but Maldon district councillors unanimously agreed to extend the trial period until March 31 next year.

During a Maldon District Council meeting on Thursday councillor Robert Boyce, leader of the council, said the market was “one of the most successful things that’s happened recently at Burnham,” adding that he was pleased with the trial and wished it to continue.
